A walnut solid-wood bed: choosing among three
All three are original solid-wood names that come up a lot, and the prices differ by a wide margin. Side by side, here's what you're actually paying for.
Bottom line: tight budget but you want real wood, look at Chengfa; set on black walnut and mortise-and-tenon craft and not short on cash, pick MUMO; love a hand-made, Nordic-minimal feel, pick MK. All three are genuine solid wood; what differs is material grade, craft and how much you'll pay.
Side by side
| Brand | Material | Craft | Bed price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chengfa | Solid wood (mixed species) | Original design + industrial production | ~¥3,000 | Budget entry into solid wood |
| MUMO | Mostly black walnut | Concealed mortise-and-tenon | ¥6,000–9,000 | Buyers who value craft |
| MK | Black walnut | Hand-made | Higher, varies | Hand-made + Nordic minimal |
One by one
Chengfa
A newer original brand, modern-minimal in style, with a solid-wood bed around ¥3,000 — noticeably cheaper than the ¥5k–8k of typical original brands. If your budget is tight but you don't want veneered particle board, it's a realistic pick. The trade-off is material and craft that aren't as considered as the other two, so study the real photos.
MUMO
MUMO works mostly in black walnut and favors concealed mortise-and-tenon joints, with an overall scholarly-minimal look. The price goes up, but you're buying material grade and structure. If you scrutinize joinery, grain and moisture content, MUMO holds up.
MK
MK leans into hand-made black walnut, Nordic-minimal in style. It sits in the same "pay for craft" tier as MUMO; the difference is taste: if you want a hand-made warmth and slightly looser lines, you'll lean MK.
Three things to verify before you buy
- Is it all solid wood? Ask whether it's "pure solid wood" or "veneer / particle board wrapped in solid wood" — the price gap is large.
- Moisture content. Humid south, dry north; a mismatch cracks and warps, so ask for the figures.
- Hardware and load. Slat spacing and leg connectors decide how stable it stays over years of sleeping.
